Making an Autumn Table centre

Last weekend I did a wedding open day at the lovely Moonraker Hotel and the day after brought back the centre-pieces I had made (You can see them here) I thought it would be a shame to throw them away so I’ve had a go at a simple Autumn table centre.

For the open day I borrowed some baskets from my favourite vintage shop in Trowbridge and this is one below. To start I placed four jam-jars in the basket and filled them with water. They are just jars from home so don’t need to be any special glassware. The basket is 15cm table and square so that gives you an idea of size.

I always start with foliage, I gathered around 40 stems of different types as I love texture. I’ve popped a list below of what I used, half was from my garden so you can certainly wander round gathering greenery from your own garden if your able.

  • Eucalyptus
  • Pittosporum
  • Mint
  • Spirea
  • Salvia

I cut the lengths of foliage to around 40cm long and started placing them in the basket. Once you start building up the foliage you find the foliage will start interlocking because of how the jars are placed.

Once I had a good coverage of foliage and I couldn’t see the inside of the basket and the jars. I then turned to the flowers, another list of what I used is below.

  • Dahlia
  • Lisianthus
  • Hypericum
  • Spray rose
  • Clematis
  • Roses
  • Red amaranthus

The finished effect, I was quite pleased with how it turned out for something quite simple in design. Make sure when you are placing all the flowers in that you don’t cut them to all the same length. You can see the purple clematis is floating over the top of the design so keep some lengths longer for added height and interest.

Hope you have enjoyed this and found it helpful.
